Who is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: April 9, 2022
Dedicated to the brilliant and beautiful Ernie Tripper
SNL is live tonight with another brand new 100% live episode. Jake Gyllenhaal is hosting, and its not his first time. He’s back in the host role after 15 years.
Gyllenhaal is currently starring in the new Michael Bay movie Ambulance, a remake of a Danish action/chase movie. Critics are calling the two hour plus spectacle a non stop action extravaganza, true to Bay’s trademark style. Of course you haven’t seen Ambulance yet but you know Gyllenhaal from so many other projects, like his breakthrough starring role in Donnie Darko, or the 2004 sci fi hit, The Day After Tomorrow, and you probably know him from the film that earned him an Oscar nomination, Broke Back Mountain. Other acclaimed roles include his performance in Zodiac, Source Code (directed by Duncan Jones), Night Crawler, and of course, his role as Mysterio in Spider Man Far From Home.
In the promo for this week’s episode, Jake leads Bowen Yang and Camilla Cabello in a debate over whether you pronounce his name like GIF or JIF. And Bowen Yang gets into some odd poetry, so if thats your thing you’re going to love the promo.
Tonight’s musical guests is Camilla Cabello.
What can we expect from the Saturday Night Live writers this week? Probably not Pete Davidson, at least not live in person. Last night was our first Pete sighting on the show, although it was in a prerecorded digital short, not a live sketch. Not expecting that to change this week. Big stories- well everyone’s still talking about Will Smith, so weekend update will most likely reference the latest development in that story. Also expecting Weekend Update to reference Ezra Miller, Ed Sheeran, Baseball Season- and the new $151 Braves Burger specifically, Elon Musk buying into Twitter, and most definitely, Paula Patton’s fried chicken.
We have a new Supreme Court Justice, and the details surrounding her confirmation could provide a cold open this week.
You can find out for yourselves tonight at 11:30pm ET on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
