Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Other Big Names to Mentor Comics on This Year’s “Last Comic Standing”

Last Comic Standing - Season 8NBC has been keeping most of the details about this year’s all new season of Last Comic Standing. Most of the format details are super hush, and the names of the comedians have been largely guarded with the exception of a few comedians we’ve seen in promos. But NBC announced today, that in addition to all the great comedians already involved, there will be a number of huge comedy names serving as celebrity mentors.

Wanda Sykes, Howie Mandel, Amy Schumer, Cheryl Hines and Jeff Ross will serve as advisors to the contestants on episodes this season, and Gilbert Gottfried and others will make surprise appearances. They’ll be joining JB Smoove who is serving as host, and Roseanne Barr, Russell Peters and Keenan Ivory Wayans who are this season’s judges.

Last week Judge Roseanne Barr and producer Page Hurwitz alluded to challenges that the comics would be facing, and today NBC also revealed that one of the challenges the contestants will face is a visit to “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Comedians will be tested on their interview skills, although NBC isn’t saying if they’ll be tested on their host or guest skills.

The season premiers this Thursday in a two hour long premier on NBC at 9pm/8c. Comedians will be competing for a prize package worth $250,000, including a cash prize, a talent deal and a development deal for a television show.
