Tonight’s Tonight Show Visits the Comedy Cellar for Episode Shot Entirely on a Smart Phone

Tonight Show hangs at the Comedy Cellar tonight.

Tonight you will see a very different Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. For starters, there’s no monologue. No sitting down on the set with guests. No studio. And no cameras (more on that below).

According to Variety, Fallon is dumping tradition tonight and hitting up some of his favorite city locations including the world famous Comedy Cellar. Michael Che and Rachel Feinstein will be the episodes “guests”- Che sitting down for an interview at the Cellar, and Feinstein will be performing there.

Fallon will also eat at Rao’s famous restaurant, bring meatballs to first responders, visit a NYC jazz club (the Django), sing at an Irish Pub (where Conor McGregor will make an appearance), and sing doo-wop in the street.

The occasion for the change is commercial in nature.  The entire show is actually an advertisement for Samsung Galaxy S10+ smartphone. There’s no cameras because the full episode will be shot on the Samsung Galaxy S10+. Probably a few of them in fact.

Here’s a preview of the episode with Fallon and the Roots doing some singing.
