The Racial Joke That Got “Seinfeld” Episode Banned From NBC

The show about nothing had an episode that had too much of something for NBC and that was racist humor.

Cinema Blend is reporting that an entire episode of “Seinfeld” was thrown out after one line was deemed ‘racial’. It was a line that George Costanza was supposed to deliver.  “You know, I have never seen a black person order a salad.” Apparently that perceived racist joke was enough to get the entire script rejected.

Seinfeld’s long run on NBC did include jokes involving race, including an episode where Kramer burned the Puerto Rican flag, which set off a series of complaints to the network. A show about Elaine missing her subway stop and ending up in Harlem, however, was rejected for its racial implications.

That must also explain that season 2 episode called “The Bet” where Elaine buys a gun and jokingly holds it to her head and calls it “The Kennedy.” NBC ditched that idea. It was the 90s. Too soon.
