“The Muppet Show” May Return To Television On ABC

The most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, Muppetational variety series of all time may be coming back to TV. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bill Prady, the co-creator of “The Big Bang Theory” is filming a pilot presentation for “The Muppet Show” to pitch to ABC. “The Muppet Show” originally ran from 1976 to 1981.
Prady is co-writing the script for pilot concept which could lead the new “Muppet Show” to go straight to series on ABC. The network and the Muppets are both owned by Disney. The video presentation would bring back the original characters from “The Muppet Show” including Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and Animal. In the concept video, the Muppets are at ABC studios to pitch their show with the one hold-out being Miss Piggy who refuses to sign on to the project because her relationship with Kermit the Frog has hit some rough times.
THR says the rebooting of “The Muppet Show” was originally looked at by Netflix. Bill Prady hopes to get the show on ABC while interest in variety shows is up with NBC doing two new variety series, “I Can Do That” hosted by Marlon Wayans and an American version of “Saturday Night Takeaways” hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.
