Neil Patrick Harris Gets his Own Variety Show. It Will Probably Be a Huge Hit.

Neil Patrick Harris’ gets anything he wants.  He’s unstoppable.  He’s everywhere.  Deal with the devil?  Probably. Because it’s not that Neil Patrick Harris isn’t good at what he does– we have no complaints. You know that anything he does is going to be professional, pleasant and probably do great in the ratings.  But does anyone really get excited about a new NPH announcement?

His latest ‘get’ is his own TV variety show on NBC. According to Vulture, it’s based on the British series “Saturday Night Takeaway”. The NPH version will have a different name– it’s currently untitled and it will not air on Saturday Nights.  The show is expected to feature comedy sketches, musical numbers, game shows, hidden-camera pranks and appearances by big name celebrities. NBC won a bidding war against other networks to seal the deal.

Neil Patrick Harris said, “As I watched the show, I couldn’t stop smiling. Now that I’ve seen many seasons, my face hurts. It’s a game changer. Nothing like this has been done before, and its unique structure fits right into my random skill set. I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and have some fun!”

Harris was also tapped recently to host the 2015 Oscars, although there were “leaks” that he wasn’t Oscars first choice.

The new show is expected to be a weekly series and debut some time in 2015.
