COMEDY MOVIES OF SUMMER 2015

It’s Summer movie season. The Avengers, the dinosaurs and secret agent Ethan Hunt are all back in theaters. Besides the screen exploding with action sequels, there’s also plenty of laughs packed into the next 3 months. Amy Schumer is making her feature film debut. Melissa McCarthy and Paul Feig are at it again. And the guys from “Entourage” have made it from your television to the big screen. “Neighbors” was the big comedy hit last Summer. Who’s going to pull it off this year!? There’s so much to choose from. Here’s your guide to the 2015 Summer comedies.

May 2015

May 1: Ride

Starring Helen Hunt, Luke Wilson, Brenton Thwaites, David Zayas, Richard Kind, Mike White

Written and directed by Helen Hunt, she also stars as an overbearing mother who follows her son to L.A. and learns to surf  to try to reconnect with him after he drops out of college. Watch the trailer.

May 1: Welcome To Me

Starring Kristen Wiig, James Marsden, Linda Cardellini, Wes Bentley, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tim Robbins, Joan Cusack

An emotional disturbed woman (Wiig) uses the money she won in the lottery to buy time on a local cable system for her own eccentric talk show. Watch the trailer.

May 8: The D Train

Starring Jack Black, James Marsden, Kathryn Hahn, Jeffrey Tambor, Russell Posner, Mike White

Jack Black plays Dan Landsman who has promised to get the most popular guy in high school, Oliver Lawless, back for his class’ 20 year reunion. Oliver is now a star and Dan goes on a quest to get him to the reunion. Watch the trailer.

May 8: Hot Pursuit

Starring Reese Witherspoon, Sofía Vergara, Robert Kazinsky, Michael Mosley, John Carroll Lynch, Mike Birbiglia

This woman buddy comedy stars Reese Witherspoon as a police officer who goes on the run with a witness, the widow of  drug dealer played by Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara in order to protect her. Watch the trailer.

May 15: Slow West

Starring Michael Fassbender, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Caren Pistorius, Ben Mendelsohn

At the end of the nineteenth century, 16-year-old Jay Cavendish  journeys across the American frontier in search of the woman he loves. He is joined by Silas, a mysterious traveler, and hotly pursued by an outlaw along the way. Watch the trailer.

May 15: Pitch Perfect 2

May 15: I’ll See You In My Dreams

Starring Blythe Danner, June Squibb, Rhea Perlman, Mary Kay Place, Martin Starr, Sam Elliott

Blythe Danner leads a brilliant cast as a woman whose everyday activities are making her feel old. With the help of her friends, she sets out to reinvent herself and embrace the world including a new love life. Watch the trailer.

May 29: Aloha

Starring Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, Alec Baldwin, Bill Murray, John Krasinski, Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel

“Aloha” is written and directed by Cameron Crowe. It’s the romantic comedy about a military contractor (Bradley Cooper) heading back to Hawaii for a project and finds himself torn between a former love and the tough as nails female Air Force pilot he finds himself falling for. Watch the trailer.

May 29: Results

Kevin Corrigan plays a wealthy divorced man who joins a gym to improve his life, but ends up bringing chaos to the lives of two of the gym’s personal trainers played by Guy Pearce and Colbie Smulders. Watch the trailer.

June 5: Entourage

Starring Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara, Jeremy Piven, Perrey Reeves, Rex Lee, Scott Caan, Debi Mazar

Let’s hug it out. The HBO series is back as a feature film. The movie picks up where the series left off. New studio head Ari Gold gives Vinny Chase a chance to direct his first film and of course, he goes millions of dollars over budget. Watch the trailer.

June 19: Dope

Starring starring Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons, Blake Anderson, Zoë Kravitz, A$AP Rocky, Tyga, Chanel Iman, Rick Fox

This coming of age comedy-drama takes place in a rough neighborhood in Inglewood, California. Malcolm (Shameik Moore) has dreams of going to Harvard, but that could all change during one wild night at a party in Los Angeles involving drug dealers and gangsters. Watch the trailer.

June 19: Infinitely Polar Bear

Starring Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, Imogene Wolodarsky, Ashley Aufderheide

Mark Ruffalo stars as a father suffering from severe emotional problems. He’s finds himself reunited with and now raising his two daughters as his estranged wife goes off to college and he tries to win his family back. Watch the trailer.

June 19: The Overnight

Starring Adam Scott, Jason Schwartzman, Taylor Schilling, Judith Godrèche

Produced by Mark and Jay Duplass and Adam Scott, a new couple moves into the neighborhood and arrange a play date for their kid with their neighbors. After the kids are put to bed, all bets are off between the two couples in this sex comedy written and directed by Patrick Brice. Watch the trailer.

June 26: The Outskirts (Moved to November 6)

It’s a high school revolution in “The Outskirts”. Two friends to decide to bring together all of their school’s misfits in order to take control from the most popular girl on campus.

July 10: Tangerine

Starring Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, Mya Taylor, James Ransone, Mickey O’Hagan

Mark and Jay Duplass are the producers behind this comedy about a transgender prostitute, Sin-Dee Rella, who’s out of jail and looking for her boyfriend (who’s also her pimp), his new girlfriend and revenge. Watch the trailer.

July 17: Trainwreck

Starring Ar, Bill Hader, Brie Larson, Colin Quinn, Tilda Swinton, Mike Birbiglia, Jon Glaser, Vanessa Bayer, John Cena, Ezra Miller, LeBron James

This could be the most anticipated comedy of the Summer. Written by and starring Amy Schumer and directed by Judd Apatow, “Trainwreck” stars Amy as a woman who’s life is messy and her inability to commit to relationships is put to the test when she meets a guy who she really likes this time played by Bill Hader. July 17: Irrational Man

Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Parker Posey, Jamie Blackley

Woody Allen’s latest film stars Joaquin Phoenix as a burnt out, depressed, alcoholic philosophy professor who finds a new lease on life after getting involved in a relationship with one of his students, played by Emma Stone. Watch the trailer.

July 24: Pixels

Starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan, Jane Krakowski

This action comedy features aliens attacking the the Earth using classic arcade games brought to life  to wipe out the human race. The President (Kevin James) enlists his childhood friend and former 1980s arcade champion Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler) to defeat the video game invaders. Watch the trailer.

July 31: Vacation

It’s the second generation of vacationing Griswolds. Ed Helms stars a grownup Rusty Griswold from the original “Vacation” movies starring Chevy Chase. Rusty tries to recreate his father’s dream of taking his own family on a cross country road trip. Watch the trailer.

Academy Award winner Meryl Streep stars as Ricki in a new comedy from Academy Award winning screenwriter Diablo Cody and Academy Award winning director Jonathan Demme. Ricki is a woman who walked out on her family years ago to become a rock star. She now has the opportunity to reconcile with her adult daughter when she heads back home to Chicago. August 21: American Ultra

Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart reunite for the first time since “Adventureland” in “American Ultra”. They play a stoner couple getting by in small town until they find themselves caught up in a government plot.

August 21: Grandma

Comedy legend Lily Tomlin is back in a lead role in “Grandma”. Tomlin plays Elle whose long time life partner has recently died. She’s now traveling on the road with a granddaughter she’s trying to reconnect with. Watch a clip.

August 21: Learning To Drive

Starring Patricia Clarkson, Ben Kingsley, Jake Weber, Grace Gummer

In this new comedy based on an article in the New Yorker, Patricia Clarkson plays a woman seeking independence by learning to drive after her husband leaves her. Ben Kingsley plays her instructor, a man facing an arranged marriage from his home country and who needs advice about women. Watch the trailer.

August 21: She’s Funny That Way

Starring Owen Wilson, Imogen Poots, Kathryn Hahn, Will Forte, Rhys Ifans, Jennifer Aniston

“She’s Funny That Way” stars Imogen Poots as a prostitute turned Broadway actress. She turns the production she’s appearing in upside down as well as the lives of those involved in the play when the director (Owen Wilson) and the playwright (Will Forte) both fall for her. “She’s Funny That Way” is directed by Peter Bogdanovich.  Watch the trailer.

August 21: Sleeping With Other People
