Stand up comedian Quincy Jones has terminal cancer, but it is his dream to tape a one hour stand up special. A kickstarter made it possible and now HBO has committed to airing the special,  taking Jones’ dream to the next level.

Jones appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show two weeks ago and told his story. Last July, the 32 year old comic was diagnosed with terminal cancer and then in August he was told he only had about a year to live. Before being diagnosed, he was performing comedy every night, multiple sets a night, and moved from Seattle to Los Angeles to focus on his career. After finding out he had a year to live, friends of Jones launched a kickstarter campaign, to help Jones reach his dream of filming a stand up special. The kickstarter campaign raised over $50,000, and Jones set a date to film the special and realize his dream.

Ellen asked her viewers to donate money for Quincy, and also called on HBO and Netflix to grant Jones his wish to air the special, and HBO has taken up the cause.

Quincy will tape his special at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles on April 4, and the special will premiere on HBO this spring. Mickey Blaine, his friend who helped create the kickstarter campaign, will direct.

Jones found out that HBO would air his special when he returned for a second appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which taped Thursday, March 17 and will air today, Monday, March 21.
