Owen Smith's name is familiar to comedy fans on both coasts and his face is familiar to television viewers, who may still just know him as a “Hey, it’s THAT guy!” thanks to his numerous guest roles and memorable commercial appearances (he was the guy who did a choreographed dance with his State Farm agent on the jumbotron). He’s also a prolific writer who contributed to Are We There Yet?, Deon Cole’s Black Box, and 2013 reboot of The Arsenio Hall Show.

Comedy Central is promising that life’s most pressing questions will be answered when “Why? With Hannibal Buress” premieres Wednesday, July 8 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT. If the trailer is any indication, life's most pressing questions are "does anyone really like olives?" and "why is the spelling bee on ESPN?"

This Saturday night a new monthly comedy show, "Dark Spots" makes its debut at New York City's infamous "Creek and the Cave" comedy club. "Dark Spots" is a stand up comedy show, where the theme is dark comedy. With the rise of storytelling forms of comedy, dark humor is increasingly making its way into comedy clubs, and onto podcasts, albums and specials. But you haven't heard much about dark stand up shows until now. So we talked with the shows producers and hosts Alison Zeldman, Shane Torres and Nate Fridson, and asked them, what is dark stand up, and why is it something they decided to put into a comedy show.
