T.J. Miller Tells Aspen Audience Why He Regretted Quitting Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley is about to start its new season- the first T.J. Miller-less season- and we’re not the only ones who wish Erlich Bachman was returning.  On Monday, according to the Aspen Times, T.J. Miller told an audience at the Aspen Laugh Festival that he regretted leaving the HBO comedy series.  Miller performed for 90 minutes in front of a sold-out crowd at local music venue “Belly Up.”

Dressed in a colorful snowsuit onesie, he drank gin out of a paper cup, played a trombone and  joked about his troubles (“Have you ever had a nightmare that’s better than your real life? That happened to me recently for like a month”), specifically about how much money he’s lost recently. Although he didn’t directly mention the sexual assault allegations leveled against him last December, he made references to the fact that his marketability has plummeted since the time he parted ways with Silicon Valley.  “Can someone bring me another gin in a paper cup?” he asked. “I like to look homeless while I become homeless.”

He joked that he regretted leaving the HBO show, because if he had stayed, he’d have the money to run a public ad campaign to legalize Nitrous Oxide. “God damn it, sometimes I think about not having left ‘Silicon Valley’ just to have the money to run a public ad campaign that’s like: ‘Nitrous oxide! Sometimes you just need to feel better for 15 seconds! Legalize it!'”

After leaving Silicon Valley, the sexual assault allegations cost him his spokes-snot-creature gig with Mucinex, and Comedy Central canceled “The Gorburger Show.” Mucinex neither confirmed nor denied that the parting was related to the #MeToo allegations, but their decision to continue the campaign using a similar voice suggests that the decision was connected.  Comedy Central, on the other hand, released a statement that the decision not to renew the show was unrelated.

Although Miller’s hot streak has cooled, he’s still got a bunch of movies coming out and all has been relatively quiet in the media regarding the allegations ever since Miller and his wife confronted the allegations, and flat out denied them, alleging that the woman has been fixated on the couple since college and had threatened to destroy them.

This was Miller’s second public performance since the allegations surfaced in December, the first was just two days earlier in Denver.
