Theater Crowd Condemns LuPone
Theater Artists signed an Open Letter condemning comments made by Broadway icon Patti LuPone. The source of the anger goes back a bit, when LuPone complained that the music from the theater next door was too loud. Kecia Lewis who was in that play said the comment was bullying, microaggressive and reinforcing black stereotypes. Audra McDonald agreed. That was when LuPone insulted Lewis by saying “She’s done seven [Broadway shows]. I’ve done thirty-one. Don’t call yourself a vet, bitch.” And when questioned about McDonald’s reaction, LuPone said “That’s typical of Audra. She’s not a friend.”
