How Steve Buscemi Became a Fireman
Last night Steve Buscemi was on the Late Show with David Letterman talking about his new documentary, “A Good Job: Stories of the FDNY.” He also explained how he became a fireman as a young man — he was just eighteen– while he was trying to do stand up comedy. He was also moving furniture to make money at the time. He was raised to think that when you finish high school, you take a civil service test. Then he waited four years for them to call his name, and when it came time for him to join an Engine company, he was ready. He says it was the greatest job in the world, and also talks about how he put on his old gear and went down to his old firehouse after 9/11. He hates the reason he reconnected with his former brothers, but says it was the most meaningful thing that has happened to him, in his life.
Steve’s documentary airs Monday, September 8th on HBO at 9 pm et.
