Spielberg’s Original R-Rated Ending To Raiders Of The Lost Ark

Here’s a still from the finale of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” that originally earned the film an R rating. It shows Belloq’s head exploding after the ark was opened. In order to get a PG rating, Spielberg added super-imposed flame effects to cover some of the explosion. Because nothing lessens the effect of an exploding head on children like some fake fire.
