Skankfest Descends on Brooklyn: Here’s Some of the Day 1 Highlights

Skankfest 2018 is officially underway in New York City and a massive crowd of black tshirt wearing, pot smoking, edible eating, tattooed, gigantic comedy fans have converged in Brooklyn. Well they actually converged in Queens and then paraded over a bridge into Brooklyn, following a flag carrying Luis J. Gomez. That was a sight to see.

Before the actual comedy shows began, the mayhem that you would expect to see at something called Skankfest had already started when it seemed like every comedian who participated in the 3 on 3 basketball game had to go home and seek medical attention. Next year maybe we make this a video game basketball tournament. Or at least have medical professionals nearby.

To bring a taste of Skankfest to those of you who aren’t there, we asked nine fans about their favorite moments of Skankfest so far, and we have a few of our own. And big congratulations to Christine Evans, Rebecca Trent, Luis J. Gomez and a huge team running a killer rogue festival.

Ron Bennington taking the stage to a standing ovation, roasting the festival, the fans and Luis J. Gomez, and then driving the crowd out the crowd crazy by announcing that he was bringing out a man he hasn’t seen in 3 years, his former radio partner, Fez Whatley. No Fez, although for some reason Josh Adam Meyers came running out onto the stage which seemed very unplanned.

Dave Attell declared himself the King of Skankfest after a killer set, and before bringing Artie Lange onto the stage.

Artie Lange brought up the Artie and Anthony show and asked – “what was I thinking?”

For the Naked Roast – Zac Amico walked to the stage from in the crowd chugging a beer, like the wrestler Sandman used to make his way to the ring. An ECW chant started. Mayhem.

When Anya Volz kept saying you fuck your sister during Roast Battle. Not only did she spit it out, she had the confidence to keep it going. –Thomas Murphy from San Francisco.

The Legion of Skanks Podcast was definitely my favorite. It was a goddamn rowdy crowd. Everyone was into it. They were trying to get Luis to suck Big Jay’s dick…if Luis loses his fight with Ryan O’Neil..or if he wins. Either way, they were just chanting suck his dick, suck his dick. –Steve Morris from Grand Rapids, Michigan

The pre-party was great and the stand up when there was Jimmy and Bennington, Ron Bennington was amazing. Stand Up was fantastic. –Pat from Weehawken, New Jersey

The Legion of Skanks Podcast was by far the best so far. Luis being crazy, crowd surfing, getting the crowd fired up. I think because he’s fighting soon, so everything is a fight promotion so it was fucking lit. — Robby Blaze from Denver, From the Wax Wednesdays Show.

Luis J. Gomez doing stand up. He’s very funny. I liked that the crowd was so with him. People are here for him, he organized everything. And people are just like, are you here for skankfest? Woooooo! whoo!! The energy of it all. — Mike From England

Easily my favorite moment that seems to happen at every show, about four or five minutes into every show where the audience has to react to the fact that the current guy on stage can’t help but go hey come on we’re bringing it to the next level. We’re going to a place where you feel uncomfortable. And everyone opens up. And for one brief moment, we get to block out whatever bullcrap is going on outside. We get to talk about the fact that shit is funny. Dan Soder is my personal favorite. The fact that he was standing in front of me, about two feet in front of me, and it was him. That was easily a great moment. — Connor Brock from Washington D.C.

Friday night at the Real Ass Podcast live, got front row, Luis came out he’s throwing donuts, Tim Dillon was there, Nick Mullen’s there, and basically was ripping on Luis. It was Tim taking Luis down a peg. It was fantastic. –Greg Morris from Grand Rapids Michigan

Ronnie B. Watching him do stand up, watching him work a crowd. I usually only know him from the radio, and he dominated the fucking room and he was amazing. –Chris from Syracuse.

The access to the comedians- smoking a bone with Ari, seeing all those guys. Luis is just all over the place, really scizophrenic. That’s why I think he’s going to lose that fight against Ryan O’Neill. — Alexander Caroll from Montreal Quebec
