The working title may be “Spock of the Dead”. Simon Pegg is not only returning to the “Star Trek” movie franchise as Scotty the ship’s chief engineer, but he’s also co-writing the script for the next installment.

Deadline reports that Pegg is co-writing “Star Trek 3” with Doug Jung, who created the TNT series “Dark Blue”. Jung also worked with “Star Trek” producer J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company. Abrams won’t be directing the next “Star Trek” sequel. He’s now in a galaxy far far away working on “Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens”. Justin Lin (The Fast & The Furious) is taking over the director’s chair for “Star Trek 3” from Abrams and bringing Simon Pegg’s script to life.

“Star Trek” isn’t the only blockbuster film franchise Simon Pegg is involved with. He’s currently filming “Mission Impossible 5”. Plus, he has the UK release of the comedy “Absolutely Anything” coming up in July, co-starring the voice of Robin Williams as Dennis the Dog. It’s Robin Williams last film role.
