Various media outlets are reporting that there has been a shooting at a Louisiana movie theater in Lafayette during a 7pm screening of Trainwreck. The shooter is dead, and at least six are injured. Witnesses reported seeing an older man stand up at about twenty minutes into the movie, and shooting back at the audience, and then eventually turning the gun on himself.
Time Magazine is reporting that “as of 10:10 p.m., ten people were reported to have been shot and eight were brought to the hospital. The gunman and one other individual were pronounced dead on arrival.”
Witness Katie Domingue of Carencro told the Daily Advertiser that she heard a loud noise about 20 minutes into the movie.
“We heard a loud pop we thought was a firecracker,” she said. She saw “an older white man” standing up and shooting down, not in her direction.”He wasn’t saying anything. I didn’t hear anybody screaming either,” Domingue said.
Amy Schumer issued a statement on her Twitter saying she is heartbroken over the news.
My heart is broken and all my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Louisiana.
