Seth MacFarlane Sings Songs of Loneliness and Loss

Seth MacFarlane is more than just a mega-producer of comedy. Like many in the comedy biz, he also loves to sing. But Seth doesn’t want to be a rock star, his deep down not so secret wish, is to be the next Sinatra. And despite his giant successes with Family Guy, American Dad, the Ted movies, and various other comedy projects, we think he may have missed his calling.

Thursday night on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, MacFarlane crooned a silky smooth tune, “The One You Love,” off his new album, No One Ever Tells You. He told Colbert that he and his sister used to sing in local theater groups when they were kids. He loves Gilbert and Sullivan, and is a giant Sinatra fan. In fact, it was Sinatra’s album, Wee Small Hours that gave him his appreciation for somber songs of loss and longing and lonliness, and inspired him to create an album of his own. So if you want to hear what it would sound like if Brian the Dog (yeah we can’t stop hearing Brian) channeled Sinatra, watch the first clip below. In clip two you can hear MacFarlane talk about his love for  the Chairman of the Board.

Oh and he’s also a giant scifi geek. Skip down to the third clip to watch Seth and Colbert geek out with super science geek Neil deGrasse Tyson.
