Seth MacFarlane Asked To Host Really Smart Competition

Seth MacFarlane is being called on again as an awards host.  He did such a great job hosting his last gig, that the organizers of the Breakthrough Prize ceremony want him for their own ceremony. The Breakthrough Prize recognizes scientists and their work and will reward them with $3 million in awards throughout the show.

If you’re wondering why a scientific achievement competition would tap a guy who makes a living off potty humor and politically incorrect jokes, you’re not the only one.   But MacFarlane is a huge science buff and in fact, is the executive producer of Neil deGrasse Tyson’s “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey” on FOX.  See, it makes sense now.  Sort of.

Presenters will include Kate Beckinsale, Cameron Diaz, Jon Hamm, Eddie Redmayne and Benedict Cumberbatch who hopes to be recognized soon for his scientific work as Dr. Strange.

According to Deadline, the Breaththrough Prize awards are given to scientists working in physics and life sciences. This year, to add some sizzle, producers have added a Mathematics Prize. Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter will co-host along with MacFarlane.

The ceremony will take place Sunday, November 9th and then televised on Discovery and the Science Channel on Wednesday, November 15th.
