Come for the hempfest, stay for the comedy!

It’s hard to believe that until now, Seattle has never had its own comedy festival. Comedian and producer Patrick Higgins is finally doing something about it, and he’s picked the perfect weekend to kick off Seattle’s first comedy fest. It’s Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 14th through the 16th. That’s the same time as Seattle’s internationally famous Hempfest.  Over 300,000 people show up for Hempfest, but there’s usually nothing great for these visitors to do at night. Now there is. It’s the first ever HIGHlarious Comedy Festival.

The comedy festival will feature evening performances, daytime workshops, networking events and plenty of activities which will all be within a 10 minute walk from Hempfest. Patrick Higgins wants to remind everyone though that the HIGHlarious Comedy Festival which will hold its performances at the Theatre Puget Sound at the Seattle Center, is “not just for stoners”.

The Festival has received hundreds of submissions from across the country and the world, with a complete lineup of 25 comedians about to be announced.. So far, those comedians already confirmed include comics Tyler Smith from the marijuana cooking show, “Something’s Burning”, veteran Seattle comedian James Heneghen and Ngaio Bealum who’s been featured on “Getting Doug With High” with Doug Benson and in High Times magazine.

Festival High-lights!

Highlights of the weekend will include an hour of all women comedians with the “Mary Jane” show. “Permanent Comedy” hosted by the Rose City’s own Todd Armstrong featuring one comedian who performs for the audience before getting tattooed by a local ink artist.   “LGBTHC” which happens when you mix a passion for pot smoking with comedians from the LGBTQA community. An all minority showcase hosted by Portland’s Jeremy Eli. And “Cross-Faded”. If you’re not familiar with the term, cross faded is what you get when you drink and get high.  In this show, 4 comedians perform completely sober, then leave the stage to enjoy some cocktails and weed and then return to do completely new sets under the influence.

More shows and acts will be announced as the festival gets closer.
