Sara Schaefer Debuts Lies Podcast With Jim Gaffigan as First Guest

Today Nerdist.com debuted Sara Schaefer’s new podcast, LIES. Sara’s first guest, Jim Gaffigan, did plenty of lying in the thirteen minute episode complete with lying callers.

Nerdist describes the new podcast as “completely improvised and fake” Guests on LIES are required to lie. They reveal absolutely nothing. No confessions. No deep dark secrets. It’s 100% honesty-free. Surprisingly, in the course of recording the episodes they discovered that “revealing nothing turns out to reveal more than you’d expect.”

Last month we interviewed Sara Schaefer about her new podcast LIES. She talked with us about the idea behind the podcast. “I think everyone’s had a great time doing it because it’s so different from what normal podcasts are which is like ‘Confessional! Let me tell you about my difficult life! Let me tell you the pain I’ve suffered!'” She told us that she wanted to give her guests a chance to reveal nothing, and just improvise.

The results are as promised. The podcasts is fun, and completely different from everything you’ve heard. It’s self depricating in way that isn’t self-insulting, and all of you armchair psychiatrists out there are really in for a treat. But do yourself a favor and don’t take it so seriously. Upcoming guests include Colin Quinn and Jenny Slate among others.

You can hear Sara Schaefer’s LIES on nerdist.com and through WNYC.org. She’s also bringing LIES. to the New York Comedy Festival in November with a live taping (get tickets and info here).
