Rutger Hauer Joins Fairytale Comedy TV Series

Rutger Hauer is returning to his medieval roots when he guest stars on the musical fairytale comedy series “Galavant” on ABC. The show is about the adventures of Galavant, a hero who is fighting to reclaim his reputation against the evil King Richard.

According to Deadline, Hauer will play Kingsley, the older brother of King Richard. Kingsley will threaten his brother’s power in the song and dance comedy. It’s not totally new territory– Hauer got his start in the 1969 Dutch series (directed by Paul Verhoeven), “Floris” where he played a knight who returns to his kingdom to find his castle and power taken from him.

“Galavant” is from executive producer Dan Fogleman. Rutger Hauer joins other “Galavant” guest stars includes John Stamos, Hugh Bonneville, Ricky Gervais as Xanax the magician, and Weird Al Yankovic as a singing monk.
