Roseanne Cancelled: Comedians React on Twitter

There’s no bigger story today on social media (or anywhere on the internet) than ABC canceling “Roseanne” after a racist tweet by the comedian went viral this morning. The response from fellow comedians was immediate and overwhelmingly supportive of the decision to can the show.  In our entire feed we only spotted one solitary tweet by a comedian that was critical of ABC’s decision to pull the show.

If you have been sleeping all day, ABC has canceled the  reboot after Roseanne posted, then deleted and apologized for a racist tweet. Her managers, ICM have dropped her as a client. Hollywood has reacted almost universally praising the decision.

In the tweet Barr had responded to someone else’s tweet that was critical of former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett. She wrote “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” with the vj referring to Jarrett. Roseanne responded to comments that her tweet was racist by simply saying “Muslims r NOT a race”.

She apologized for her tweet, saying it was just a joke in a later tweet saying, “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.” Soon after she tweeted that she was leaving the social media network, a decision that didn’t stop ABC and her managers from dumping her.
