Restaurant W. Kamau Bell Accused Of Racism Doing Damage Control

Elmwood-cafe-1

Ever since W. Kamau Bell posted on his blog that he was treated with racism at the Elmwood Cafe in Berkeley, California, the restaurant has been receiving bad press, horrible Yelp reviews and a ton of ill will from the community. Owner Michael Pearce wants to make it right and try to do so in public with an open forum.

Earlier in the week, W. Kamau Bell wrote on his blog that an employee at the restaurant had told him to leave after she spotted him walking up to join his wife and her friends who are all white. He wrote, “We (were) currently standing in Berkeley, California, a city so allegedly liberal that even the most progress-y progressives make fun of it, and yet … I as a black man was being told to ‘git!’ like it was 1963, Selma, Alabama.”

According to DailyCal.org, Michael Pearce will hold an open forum at the Elmwood Cafe sometime next week to discuss the incident and other racial issues. This is part of what was agreed on when Pearce and Bell spoke after the blog post.

Even though Bell and his wife specifically asked that no one be fired, the employee accused of racism to W. Kamau Bell has been let go.
