Obama Continues Comedy Tour in Cuba

Either President Obama really loves comedy or someone on his team seems to think appearing in comedy programming is great for his image.

While in office, Obama has also “slow jammed the news” with Jimmy Fallon, and appeared on The Daily Show over a dozen times, and hit up most late night shows at least once including Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and The Colbert Report. He surprised the country by taking his comedy appearances to smaller stages, showing up on Between Two Ferns and continued with an appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast, and Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars With Coffee.

And then over the weekend, prior to his historic trip to Cuba, Obama took his comedy tour international, performing sketch comedy with Cuban comedian, Panfilo.

In the recorded sketch, which you can watch below, Panfilo attempts to contact Obama at the White House, unsuccessfully.  He finally gets through to the President accidentally, and gives him some travel tips, and offers hospitality.  The White House released the video over the weekend, and it is scheduled to be broadcast in Cuba on Monday during Panfilo’s regular weekly show.

He’s not the first President to make comedic appearances– JFK was on late night television, (on the Tonight Show with Jack Paar) when he was campaigning, Bill Clinton played the sax on Arsenio while running, and post-Presidential appearances are not uncommon.  But in 2009 when Obama appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Obama became the first sitting President to appear on late night and of course, he’s the first President to appear on a podcast.

Obama traveled to Cuba on Sunday afternoon. He is the first sitting President to visit Cuba in over 90 years.

We’re calling it now, you’ll see Obama hosting Saturday Night Live within the next 360.
