The New York Times looked into what everyone already knows – large amounts of people’s followers are not real. They’re fake accounts and bots. About 15% of Twitter’s active users – 48 million – are bots and up to 60 million are just automated accounts. If only robots cared about retweets, everyone would feel better about themselves.
