New York’s Funniest Ricky Velez Joins The New “Nightly Show” Correspondents Team

Last November, Ricky Velez took home the title of New York’s Funniest at the New York Comedy Festival. In 2015, good things keep happening for Ricky. He’s been named as a correspondent for “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore” on Comedy Central. “The Nightly Show” is replacing “The Colbert Report” on the comedy network.

Ricky has been doing stand up since he was 19 when he got his start at New York Comedy Club. He’s also a regular at Caroline’s on Broadway, The Comic Stip and Stand Up New York, plus he’s appeared on AXS Live @ Gotham and Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell.

After the announcement went out, Ricky tweeted how good it felt.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the new correspondents also includes Bollywood actress and culture reporter Shenaz Treasury who got her start on MTV Asia and comedian Mike Yard from New York by way of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Yard has appeared on Inside Amy Schumer, The Apollo Comedy Hour,and HBO’s Def Comedy Jam.

The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore premieres Monday, January 19th at 11:30pm et right after “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on Comedy Central.
