New Yorkers, Do Not Post Your Place on Airbnb

airbnbOtherwise you’re going to get hit with a fat fine. In case you didn’t know, Airbnb is a website which allows people to rent their homes to travellers, as an alternative to booking a hotel room in the city they’re visiting. Well that doesn’t fly in New York.

Officials are combing through the listings and fining people since it’s illegal to temporarily rent homes in New York City. It also violates all sorts of building and zoning codes. One man renting out his apartment just got hit with $7,000 dollars in fines from the city, which was later dropped to $2,400.
