New Music? You’re Out. Old Music, You’re In
According to Nielsen Soundscan, who’s been tracking album sales since 1991, for the first time ever old album sales have outsold new releases. In the first half of 2012, albums released at least 18 months ago sold 76.6 million where as current albums sold 73.9 million units. One nielsen analyst suspects the reason is that older albums are just cheaper and people aren’t looking to spend the extra cash for newer music. Or are people just moving towards the single again, and a whole album of music is going away?
