New Details Emerge About Robin Williams Death in New Bio

The biography “Robin: The Definitive Biography of Robin Williams” by David Itzkoff comes out later this month, and reveals new details about Robin’s illness and his final days.  Williams hanged himself using his own belt in August 2014, leading to initial speculation about drug abuse and depression.  Later we learned that the comedic giant had been suffering from Parkinsons disease and Lewy Body Dementia.

But the Daily News is reporting that the new biography reveals that approximately a year before his death, Robin began complaining of an array of symptoms including indigestion, loss of sense of smell, a tremor in his left hand, difficulty urinating, weight loss, a tremulous voice, and a stoop while walking,

Diagnosed with Parkinsons just months before his suicide, Robin began having difficulty walking, judging depth, had confusion, would thrash about throughout the night, and had instances of freezing where he was unable to move.  His autopsy showed that he had Lewy body dementia- a similar but different disease that shares many symptoms with PD but exhibits a highly progressive form of dementia.

In the book, his friends talk about seeing his personality change dramatically in the last two years of his life, and wife shares new details about the night before his suicide, going to bed thinking he was getting better, only to awaken to a horror the next morning.

Robin: The Definitive Biography hits stores on May 15.
