Netflix Entices Kevin James to Do First Stand Up Special in 16 Years

Kevin James is joining Netflix’s family of stand up originals with his first special since 2001 with “Sweat the Small Stuff”. The special will film later this year and air in 2018. James is no stranger to the streamer; he also starred in the 2016 Netflix film “True Memoirs of an International Assassin” and will star in a Netflix film slated to premiere April 14th “Sandy Wexler”. Netflix proves time and time again they can get any name; no matter if it’s lassoing Dave Chapelle out of retirement with three back-to-back specials or harnessing a current favorite like Jim Gaffigan for “Cinco”.
It’s been a long fifteen years since James put forth a stand up special, but he’s remained relevant to fans with films and his eponymous CBS sitcom “Kevin Can Wait”. Originally discovered at the 1996 Montreal Comedy Festival, now known as the gigantic career-catapulting Just For Laughs Comedy Festival, Kevin James began as a comic who was given the opportunity to go into sitcoms. This upcoming special will effectively introduce a whole new generation to Kevin James at his roots as he wants to be seen, which is an exciting development.
