It was previously announced in April that Eric Bana and Ricky Gervais will star in the next Ricky Gervais film about a struggling New York radio journalist. Yesterday Netflix announced that Kevin Pollak, along with Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air, Source Code) Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Raúl Castillo (Looking) and Benjamin Bratt (Law and Order) are also joining the cast of Gervais’ film. Gervais wrote the film, and will direct.

“Special Correspondents” is a satirical comedy about an arrogant New York radio man with a decadent lifestyle, who fakes front line war reports when his own bad habits put his job on the line.

In April, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said about the film, “Special Correspondents is classic Ricky Gervais; smart social satire with heart. “It’s the kind of great grown-up comedy that studios rarely make anymore, one that’s perfect for Netflix members around the world.”

Principal photography began in Toronto on May 19 and will wrap in New York City on July 3. The film will debut on Netflix next year.

Creator and star of The Office, Extras, and Derek, Gervais has won three Golden Globes, two primetime Emmys and seven BAFTAS. The Office is the most successful British comedy of all time, shown in more than 90 countries with seven remakes. Considered the most influential British comedian since Charlie Chaplin, Gervais is an award winning stand-up comedian, has hosted the Golden Globes three times and has written, directed and acted in the films Cemetery Junction and The Invention of Lying.
