Netflix Announced the Inevitable “Between Two Ferns” Movie

This week, during an event for season two of David Letterman’s Netflix interview series, Zach Galifianakis stole a little bit of thunder by announcing that his series Between Two Ferns is getting a movie. It will be called Between Two Ferns: The Movie. There will be two ferns.

The movie of course is based on the series created by Zach Galifianakis and Scott Aukerman. The Emmy award–winning series has sporadically featured host Zach Galifianakis conducting short xawkward interviews on a bare set featuring two potted plants with celebrities like Brad Pitt, President Barack Obama, Natalie Portman, Bradley Cooper, Will Ferrell, and Hillary Clinton since 2008.

For the movie version, Netflix tell us this: Zach Galifianakis dreamed of becoming a star. But when Will Ferrell discovered his public access TV show “Between Two Ferns” and uploaded it to Funny Or Die, Zach became a viral laughing stock. Now Zach and his crew are taking a road trip to complete a series of high-profile celebrity interviews and restore his reputation. Directed by Scott Aukerman, Between Two Ferns: The Movie is a laugh-out-loud comedy that gives new insight into the curmudgeonly, beloved outsider Zach Galifianakis has created over the years.

In addition to starring in the film, Galifianakis is writer and producer along with co-writer, co-producer Scott Aukerman who also directs.

The movie will be released this fall on Netflix. More specifically, September 20th, 2019. Many celebrities are promised.
