When streaming powerhouse Netflix set up a four picture deal with Adam Sandler in October of 2014, the deal seemed unheard of at the time. Now, nearly 3 years later, it makes perfect sense for the company to extend that deal for another four Sandler comedies.
Since the time that Adam Sandler and Netflix went into business together, the streaming giant has only intensified its commitment to comedy by producing scores of comedy specials and movies. However, when it comes to Adam Sandler, the business relationship is even more special. His first two movies that he produced for Netflix, The Ridiculous 6 and The Do-Over, are the biggest film releases for the service in its history. And the announcement of a four movie extension, comes just a couple of weeks before the release of Sandler’s next Netflix comedy, Sandy Wexler.
Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos expressed the company’s love for working with Adam Sandler. He said, “Adam Sandler is one of the leading comedians in the film world, and his movies have proven to be extremely successful with our subscribers around the world,” adding, “We are thrilled at the opportunity to extend our partnership with Adam and his entire team at Happy Madison and keep the world laughing.” Adam Sandler returned the compliment saying, “Love working with Netflix and collaborating with them. I love how passionate they are about making movies and getting them out there for the whole world to see. They’ve made me feel like family and I can’t thank them enough for their support,” .
The streaming platform is delving more and more into the original movie business and attracting huge talents like Adam Sandler to collaborate with along the way. Netflix has upcoming films involving big names like Robert Redford, Brad Pitt, Sir Ben Kingsley, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Duncan Jones, Paul Rudd, Angelina Jolie and Will Smith.
Plus, Sandler has certainly seen a resurgence of his own work both personally and for his production company, Happy Madison since he started flying the Netflix flag. It’s no wonder that Adam Sandler is hearing Netflix chant “4 More Films! 4 More Films!”
Sandy Wexler directed by Steve Brill (The Do-Over, Mr. Deeds) and starring Adam Sandler, Judd Apatow, David Spade, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, Nick Swardson, Dana Carvey Jennifer Hudson, Aaron Neville, Jane Seymour and Henry Winkler launches on Netflix on Friday, April 14th.
