NBC Cancels Stand Up Centric Comedy After Three Seasons

NBC has cancelled Undateable after three seasons.
The network showed a lot of love for the series since it premiered in 2014. Stand up comedians Chris D’Elia, Brent Morin, Ron Funches, and Rick Glassman starred in the series. After an experimental live episode in Season Two (actually two live episodes, the cast performed it twice- once for each coast). After seeing a ratings jump from season one to season two NBC offered the cast a third season of all live episodes.
The cast also went on a big national stand up tour last spring to promote the second season, hitting up SXSW at Esther’s Follies, Vegas, Miami, Detroit, Chicago and other cities before wrapping up at Carolines on Broadway.
Critical reception had been lukewarm for the series throughout its run, but it isn’t all bad news. The series significantly raised the profile of all the castmembers, who are all great stand up comics. Ron Funches may be the breakout star of the series and we’ll be shocked if another network series doesn’t grab him up quickly. Funches tweeted earlier today, “Undateable has decided to retire young, Thanks for the cheese, catch ya’s later.” D’Elia and Glassman also thanked the show’s fans for their love and support both saying, “It has been a BLAST!” When asked about the possibility of an internet-based platform pick up, like Hulu or Netflix, D’Elia answered “anything’s possible.”
NBC also cancelled the freshman series Telenovela which starred Eva Longoria.
