Murphy Brown Is Coming Back to Tackle the News in 2018

Deadline reported on Wednesday that Murphy Brown will be the last network hit comedy to reassemble its cast and return to the airwaves. CBS has ordered 13 episodes of a Murphy Brown revival that will reuinite creator Diane English and Candice Bergan, who will return and star in the sitcom revival. So far Bergen is the only confirmed castmember returning but the network is talking to former series stars about joining the 2018 version.
Originally debuting in 1988, the series followed TV anchor, interviewer and journalist Murphy Brown, slugging her way through the world of network news on the television news series FYI. It’s been 30 years since Bergen first played Brown. The series originally ran for 10 seasons. When we last saw Brown, she had just decided to remain with FYI after briefly considering retirement. The series starred Bergen as Brown, along with Grant Shaud as producer Miles Silverberg, Joe Regalbuto as Frank Fontana, Faith Ford as Corky Sherwood and Charles Kimbrough as Jim Dial, and Robert Pastorelli, who passed away in 2004, as Brown’s friend, and artist in residence Eldin.
The Murphy Brown revival follows a trend of reunited casts with shows like Full House, Will & Grace, and Roseanne all returning to the airwaves in various formats.
