Letterman’s Announces Howard Stern, Tina Fey and Obama Will Guest on His Netflix Series

Details are out for David Letterman’s new monthly talk show, including a title, a guest list and a premiere date. “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction” brings the talk show giant out of retirement and back into the interviewer’s chair. The former late night talk show host has announced a lineup of guests who truly need no introduction, they are some of the most famous people on the planet.

Letterman’s return to television happens on January 12, and with him is a pretty great “get.” Obama will join Letterman for the series debut- marking his return to television for the first time since leaving office. Interviews will take place in a studio setting as well as outside the studio, and field segments are planned that will follow up on a topic related to that months guest.

In a teaser for the series Letterman, who still dons a big beard, albeit more manicured says “I had a show for a long time, and then I didn’t have a show for a long time and I can’t tell you how great it is to be out of the damn house, wow.” It’s been less than two years since Letterman’s last CBS show aired on May 15, 2015. The clip shows Letterman on a stage in a theater setting, two simple chairs, in front of a brick wall for a set.

Five more hour-long episodes will follow- once a month, with Howard Stern, Tina Fey, Jay-Z, George Clooney and Malala Yousafzai making the roster.

My Next Guest marks Netflix’s second attempt to take late night into a different format; Chelsea Handler’s Chelsea experimented with different ways to explore the ground normally covered in late night.

Produced by RadicalMedia and Letterman’s Worldwide Pants for Netflix.
