Judd Apatow will produce Kumail Nanjiani‘s Big Sick— a film he co-wrote with his wife Emily V. Gordon based on real life events.  Nanjiani will also star in the film, and Michael Showalter will direct.

FilmNation Entertainment is financing the film.  “The Big Sick is supremely funny and human and relatable on so many levels, said FilmNation executive Glen Basner. “With a comedic dream team led by Judd Apatow, Barry Mendel, Michael Showalter and Kumail Nanjiani, audiences worldwide are going to laugh their asses off. I know I did.” Showalter added, “I am so thrilled and honored to be working with Judd Apatow, FilmNation, Kumail and Emily on this incredible story about true love and identity.”

Nanjiani stars in HBO’s Silicon Valley, as well as writing, executive producing and serving as the Kumail in “The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail.” Michael Showalter, helmed the 2015 SXSW Film Festival audience award winner “Hello, My Name Is Doris,” and also directed the cult classic “The Baxter.” Emily Gordon is an executive producer of “The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail”, recently authored the book “Super You: Release Your Inner Superhero,” and also writes on NBC’s “The Carmichael Show”.
