Kevin Hart Checks That Box: He’ll Host the Oscars in 2019

Kevin Hart is hosting the 2019 Oscars.

We knew Hart getting the gig was just a matter of time. There’s not much Kevin Hart wants, career wise, that he can’t get.

In 2015, Kevin Hart told TMZ and Entertainment Tonight that his next goal was to host the Academy Awards. A month later there were rumors that he was up for contention to host the awards the following year after Hart was spotted having lunch with Ellen Degeneres.

It didn’t happen in 2016- Chris Rock grabbed the highly coveted hosting gig that year. In fact it took four years to make it happen, but that’s not bad considering he was competing for a job held by only one person each year, and Jimmy Kimmel’s been hogging the gig for the last two years.

Hart is a natural host with plenty of experience. His first hosting gig in 2011 was a the BET Awards, which he followed up the following year hosting the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. Even back in 2012, before Hart hit it big he was predicting a future run hosting the Oscars. In 2015 he co-hosted the MTV Movie Awards. He’s also hosted SNL three times, and a Comedy Central Roast. He’s ready.

The 91st Academy Awards ceremony will take place on February 24, 2019.
