Judd Apatow Tells Dramas to Go Fuck Themselves

Apatow was up on stage Sunday night at the Critics Choice Awards to present a special award to Amy Schumer, and along the way took a minute to tell the Golden Globes to go fuck themselves. More specifically he said ‘all the dramas’ but we know he meant the Globes, mostly for classifying The Martian as a comedy. It was a funny speech, an accurate speech, and a perfect lead in to present an MVP award to Amy Schumer for her incredible year.

“I got Matt Damon staring at me right now– after that whole Golden Globe comedy thing,” Apatow said from the podium. “We only have one award, Matt!!  That’s all we get!”  Apatow compared himself to a nerd in the school yard, and said Damon basically stole his milk money.  “I mean can we just pick whatever category we want to be in,” he asked. “We have an Asian man in our movie, can I go foreign film now?”  Promising not to get weird, Apatow went ahead and got weird and told all the dramas out there to “go fuck yourself, in your period costumes, and your concussions, and your bears and your sexuality. Go fuck yourself.”

Apatow turned back to the task at hand after that, praising the recipient of the Critics Choice MVP Award, his friend, colleague and collaborator Amy Schumer, who he said has had the biggest year of anyone ever or at least since Belushi had the Blues Brothers movie and album at the same time as he had Saturday Night Live.

Apatow listed some of Schumer’s accomplishments this year–which include an HBO special, an arena tour, hosting  Saturday Night Live, hosting the MTV movie awards, opening for Madonna, plus she wrote, produced and starred in Trainwreck, her first movie, and she’s the creator and star and a writer on Inside Amy Schumer.  And, he added, “I think on the cover of GQ she fucked C3PO.”   Calling her the perfect comedian of this moment, he then presented Schumer with her award.

Well done Apatow.

Schumer also won the award for Best Actress in a Comedy Movie.
