Last night on The Daily Show Judd Apatow stopped in to talk about his new book, which is in stores today. Sick in the Head: Conversations About Life and Comedy has been in the works since Apatow was 15. Apatow has told stories for years about how when he was in high school, he wanted to learn about comedy so badly, that he used to trick publicists into setting up interviews with big comedians and writers by claiming he was actual press. Finally, all of us can read those interviews, because they’re all in the book.

Apatow settled two questions quickly– one, when you’re dressed like an 80’s comic, you gotta Barry Sobel it up a little bit, and second, no, he won’t pay it forward and do interviews with 15 year old kids today. That was his thing. That ship has sailed.

Apatow said most of the people he interviewed in his teens didn’t seem to remember him or the interview, but says he couldn’t have done as many interviews as he did without the help of SNL writer Alan Zweibel, who happily handed over to him a list of phone numbers of comedy celebs including Rodney Dangerfield.

Apatow is also on tour all week performing stand up with the Trainwreck Comedy Tour hitting up eight cities straight this week with the stars of his new movie Trainwreck.

Stewart also shared some info- he’s getting ready to get back to stand up himself (confirming what Hasan Minhaj told us back in March) and he’s not planning to have a Letterman-esque Summer full of giant good-byes from big celebrities. In lieu of a big splashy summer of farewells, Stewart is either going to hold a Model UN with all his past diplomat guests, or he’s just going to have his comedian friends stop by to hang out.

Jon Stewart’s last show is August 6th. Trainwreck opens July 17. Sick in the Head is in stores now.
