Jon Stewart Leaving the Daily Show

After 17 years, Jon Stewart is leaving the fake news desk on The Daily Show.
Stewart announced during the taping of Tuesday’s show that he is leaving The Daily Show, according to The New York Times. The Channel confirmed the news to the Times with the statement, “Jon will remain at the helm of ‘The Daily Show’ until later this year.”
Comedy Central President Michele Ganeless said in a statement, “For the better part of the last two decades, I have had the incredible honor and privilege of working with Jon Stewart. His comedic brilliance is second to none. Jon has been at the heart of Comedy Central, championing and nurturing the best talent in the industry, in front of and behind the camera. Through his unique voice and vision, ‘The Daily Show’ has become a cultural touchstone for millions of fans and an unparalleled platform for political comedy that will endure for years to come. Jon will remain at the helm of ‘The Daily Show’ until later this year. He is a comic genius, generous with his time and talent, and will always be a part of the Comedy Central family.”
Jon Stewart didn’t elaborate on what his post-Daily Show plans would be and Ganeless said he would continue hosting the show until later this year. Comedy Central recently replaced “The Colbert Report” which followed the Daily Show with Jon Stewart with the Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. Stewart stepping down comes in a year where David Letterman is also retiring from late night television to be replaced by Stephen Colbert and James Corden is stepping in as the new host of the Late Late Show on CBS.
Tonight! For once, you wanna stay through the interview.
