John Oliver Investigates The Lottery

Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver took a look at the state lotteries run around the country. There’s billions of dollars at stake in America with the lottery, but that’s for the 44 states that run them. $68 billion dollars was spent on lottery games last year. Americans love these games of chance so much, they spent more on lottery tickets than movies, video games, the NFL and other sources of entertainment combined. Maybe that’s because the odds of winning are so good, 1 in 176 million. So you’re saying there’s a chance? According to John Oliver’s report, that same odds as being hit by lightning while being eaten by a shark.
But the money is going to a good cause, schools, right? Don’t bet your kid’s education on it.
