John Oliver Talks Super Bowl 49 and Gets a “Handless Hello” From the Liverpool Football Club
Last night on Late Night, John Oliver and Seth Meyers were talking about the Super Bowl, and the half time which he called thirty minutes of power Perry and proof that the NFL does not care about it’s players. Oliver also had some advice about the big loss. “It will never leave you,” John advised Seahawks fans.
John knows about crushing sports losses. Two World Cups ago England played Germany, and Oliver knew it would go badly, and he gave his wife some advance warning, that maybe after the game, they shouldn’t be together. When the final whistle sounded, John slumped over, after witnessing a truly crushing defeat, when his wife leaned over and said to him,”oh it’s just a game and I love you.” Oliver said he had no choice but to walk it off, so he went to Central Park and walked around the park five times. It took him three hours. And it’s still with him. So good luck Seahawks fans, this is going to stick with you forever.
He also told Meyers one more great sports story– about the time he got to meet his heroes– the Liverpool football club. He was given the chance to meet his heroes, in the locker room after the game, which turned out to be a bad idea. Suffice it to say, you might not want to see your heroes, as they’re coming out of the shower. Oliver described it as happening in slow motion, and seeing the entire team give him a “handless hello.”
John Oliver’s second season of Last Week Tonight starts this Sunday on HBO.
