Jimmy Fallon Speaks at Parkland High School Graduation

It’s the time of year when famous comedians and other celebrities start popping up delivering commencement speeches. But a giant celebrity sighting at a High School graduation is somewhat unusual. But four months after the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School were attacked by a shooter who killed 17 students and teachers, their graduation ceremony wasn’t your typical graduation, and these are no longer typical children.

Jimmy Fallon surprised the graduating class of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last week, telling the students, “you are not just the future – you are the present. Keep changing the world. Keep making us proud.”

Fallon told the kids they should “feel incredibly proud” of themselves not only for graduating high school but also for spearheading efforts to pass gun control legislation. “That doesn’t mean you should rest on your laurels — or your yannys,” he joked, adding, “Here’s what will matter: You, the class of 2018, will have graduated. And you won’t be classmates anymore. You’ll be adults who Facebook search each other at two in the morning for the next 10 years.”

He thanked them for their courage, their bravery, and “for giving amazing speeches I could never possibly live up to.”
