On Wednesday, November 29, the Ms. Foundation for Women hosted “Laughter is the Best Resistance,” its 22nd Comedy Night at Carolines on Broadway in New York City. “Laughter is the Best Resistance,” featured standup from leading women comedians – in addition to a short performance from Ms. Foundation Founding Mother, Gloria Steinem.

During her standup set, Ms. Foundation Founding Mother Gloria Steinem compared the current administration to the French Revolution to raucous applause. Additionally, she joked: “When a reporter asked me what I would say to [First Lady] Melania Trump, I said I’d tell her ‘I have a guest room.’”

Steinem shared the stage with Judy Gold, Jen Kirkman and a killer list of some of comedy’s strongest up and coming female voices like Dulce Sloan, Liza Treyger, Jena Friedman, and Ashley Nicole Black.

In keeping with the event’s theme of finding humor in resistance, Ms. Foundation President and CEO Teresa C. Younger asked audience members to practice putting up their middle fingers while on bicycles, just in case they happen to pass the Presidential motorcade.

The Comedy Night, created by Ms. Foundation founding mother Gloria Steinem and Caroline Hirsch in 1989, celebrated the grassroots movement to advance gender equity in the U.S. and has featured some of America’s most talented comedians. Proceeds from the event support funding, training, and advocacy for women-led grassroots organizations that promote and protect reproductive healthcare access and choice, workplace advancement and quality childcare, and women’s safety.
