Live Roast Battle Finale Opens With Jeff Ross Asking “How Did Trump Happen?”

Last night on the Live Roast Battle II Finale on Comedy Central, Jeffrey Ross opened the show asking “How did this happen!?!” after welcoming roast fans to the live event.  Sunday night’s live event landed in the middle of a tumultuous weekend politically.  Protests were rampant through the country all weekend after President Trump signed an executive order banning citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S. for a period of 90 days.

Throughout the weekend, comedians and other performers were out protesting, leading and joining demonstrations and making social media statements against the action, and several performers who took the stage at the SAG awards spoke out against Trump’s action and things were no different on Comedy Central as Jeff Ross called comedy a “safe haven”and “the new resistance.”

“Look at this arena.  This beautiful safe haven ‘comedy’ bringing people together,” he told the audience. “That’s what we need right now folks; for a divided nation to come together and finally admit that civilization had a great run, and a new President has somehow roast battled his way into the oval office.  How did this happen!?”

Ross, who has met Trump twice on friendly terms for Roasts, said Trump told him that Ross is his favorite comedian.  “Is this good or bad? I’m not sure.  I feel like I could get into his cabinet now.  I feel like any second he’s going to call and bump me up from Roastmaster General to Secretary of Offense.  He’ll be like Ross, I need four insults about China by 3:00.  Yes mein fuhrer.  I’ll meet you over there in 20 minutes.”

He joked that he was writing Trump’s new book called “Mein Kamp is bigger than Your Kamfp” and started off the night by telling the audience “Comedy is the New Resistance” and introduced the panel of judges which he called”freedom fighters”- T.J. Miller, Jason Sudeikis, Natasha Leggero and Patton Oswalt.
