Ilana Glazer and James Corden Join T.J. Miller to Voice Emojis for New Film

The topic of ‘which aspects of life can be animated’ just got broader as plans develop for Sony Animation’s 2017 comedy “EmojiMovie: Express Yourself”. “Broad City’s” Ilana Glazer and James Corden of CBS’s “Late Late Show” recently joined on as the vocal cast of “EmojiMovie: Express Yourself”, the vaguest and most branded movie title since the “Lego Movie”. Alongside T.J. Miller of “Silicon Valley”, the comedians star as an exuberant high five emoji (Corden), a code-breaking emoji Jailbreak (Glazer) and Gene (Miller), the one emoji in all of Textopolis who has more than one expression. The characters pinball between the worlds of various apps, searching for the Code that will cement Gene into a single expression like all the other Emojis until a greater threat risks their entire world will be deleted.
The film’s ridiculously topical premise is an imaginative bestowing of a secret life upon the essential, under appreciated super computers living in our pockets. The comedy will presumably be billed as a family film and the idea of a child watching the secret adventures of the contents of their parent’s phone is an oddly fitting addition to the level of technology younger generations are now steeped in.
