The Whitney Museum has sold the Breuer Building to Sotheby’s for About $100 Million. The building held the Whitney’s American art collection for the last 50 years. The auction house plans to move its galleries there and open to the public next year. “The iconic Breuer Building will always be a beloved part of the Whitney’s rich history,” Whitney Director Adam Weinberg said. “We are pleased that it will continue to serve an artistic and cultural purpose through the display of artworks and artifacts.”
