Carole Montgomery started out with an idea for a tour, bringing funny women over 40 on tour with her, and it was a huge hit. Showtime loved the idea and signed up for an hour special in 2019, which grabbed the highest ratings of a premiere of a stand up special all year. Last year, Showtime presented More Women of a Certain Age, and this year, the series returns with Even More Funny Women of a Certain Age. This year’s fabulous funny females over forty will feature Carole along with Terri Hatcher, Wendy Liebman, Monique Marvez, Leighann Lord and Marsha Warfield

We celebrated the series debut by asking the 2019 slate to tell us which legendary women in stand up inspired them to get on stage. Last year, we asked the FWOACA to tell us their favorite funny women who you might not know about, yet, and they gave us six great names to keep an eye on. This year we just want to know anyone who inspires these fantastic performers. Enjoy learning from these extraordinary women, and make sure you watch Even More Funny Women of a Certain Age.

“Funny Women of a Certain Age” is the brainchild of comedian Carole Montgomery, bringing women over 40 to stages across the country.

Watch Even More Funny Women of a Certain Age on Wednesday November 24 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME.

When asked about who the most inspirational woman of a certain age was, I really had to think about all that came before me. To think that the “Cult of True Womanhood” (the idea that the only “true” woman was a pious, submissive wife and mother concerned exclusively with home and family) WAS only a hundred years ago.Women have to have heroes too. Fighting for women’s rights in a time when women’s voices weren’t heard AT ALL takes balls. I can’t imagine not being able to speak my mind. It’s just not what I do. There would be no Funny Women Of A Certain that’s for sure.
So to all the women of a certain age who came before me and fought for my right to speak up, I salute you.

Terri Hatcher

I’m inspired daily by many women. From my stay at home mom friends who aren’t famous or recognized by the world, but within their communities who have tirelessly and consistently provided loving support to many and done so, all with grace and humor, to the more publicly recognized women in history who have stood up unafraid to be seen and fight for a better humanity for all. I’m inspired by those who have been the first to do the thing no one thought they could do, who’ve pushed beyond adversity and inspired us with actions and perspective that will motivate women for decades. At my age I’m particularly inspired by women successfully fighting the stigma of aging in my industry. Sadly, ageism continues to thrive but there are many stars powerful enough to turn this tide with compelling performances, Lily, Jessica, Jane, Susan, Patricia…Bottom line? There are too many inspiring women for me to pick just one..and for THAT I am beyond grateful. Inspiring women are everywhere you look, both young and old, from the boardroom to the screen, public office to the schools, from music to the skies, and I’m indebted to their lessons

Me!  I’m making this shit up as I go along! Of course, there are many funny women who inspire me, but when I started, none that I knew of did the kind of comedy I wanted to do. They all created characters and did skits. Mom’s Mabley did stand up, and was inspirational in many ways, but she too created an alternate persona. I wanted to speak my own truths. Like Flip Wilson’s Geraldine Jones, but she was a character, too. So, I made like Sinatra and did it my way.  Nowadays, though, the most inspirational comedienne I know of is Aida Overton Walker. She worked with the team of (Bert) Williams and (George) Walker. Some say she was virtually an equal partner, other accounts differ. But after her husband, George Walker, died, she took his place wearing his clothes and doing his lines. Just the thought of her doing that at that time is badass as can be. Unfortunately though, things being as they are, I never even heard of her until maybe 10 – 15 years ago.

My mother is my Woman of a Certain Age Shero! She wanted to be a nurse as long as she remembered. In the Latino culture of 2 generations ago, it was taboo. My grandmother, Pura Nieves (literal translation Pure Snows), did not treasure the thought of her 12-years-of-Catholic-schools eldest, sweet daughter washing random sick man’s junk or seeing it for that matter!!! She became a secretary, stay at home mother and did a little retail at the holidays forever ago… After the collapse of her marriage to my dad and step father, she remarried my dad, however she was not the same woman. Life had tested her and she’d passed! When I was 13, she went to nursing school after my dad made good on his threat to divorce her if she started… It changed my life seeing her standing in line to matriculate as a single parent of 3 small kids. 45 years later, she retired at 79. Reluctantly…

Leighann Lord

“Aside from My Mom — I’m contractually obligated to say that —the most inspirational woman of a certain age is a blend of Lena Horne (classy), Eartha Kitt (sexy), and Dorothy Zbornak (fictional but funny af).”

Wendy Liebman

My mother is the most inspirational woman of a certain age. She is 86 and does Pilates (I did it once, and just one, I did Pilate). She is a great cook and a people person. She is also generous, stylish, and hilarious. She played the drums at my wedding. Toni Ann Holland Liebman.
