On Conan, Emma Stone told Conan O’Brien that she recently tried to explain Twitter to Woody Allen. The 79-year-old director said that he did not understand the point of the medium, “unless you are a musician advertising a gig or you are a comedian doing one liners.” The Irrational Man co-star tried to demonstrate a great Twitter account to Allen, reading him a tweet from the author Joyce Carol Oates.
How could this backfire? When she read the tweet: “Tragedy plus time equals comedy,” Woody responded: “That’s my line.” He explained to Stone that Alan Alda’s character says that quote in his film, Crimes and Misdemeanors.
